my next of kin recently left for nyc. my dad's brother's eldest son (cousin) opted to have a go at thailand against his will. i failed to utter the words "have a safe flight". why say this? granted it's a figure of speech and common courtesy but it's not like they have a choice. if someone goes on a journey via the olde voertuig (car) then one says "drive safe" or "have a safe trip" cos you're reminding to be safe on the road where they have control whereas on the plane they're headed skyward on pure faith. it's not like they're gona do anything to jeopardize the flight.
"its a good thing blanche told me have a safe flight otherwise i wuda indulged in some mid-flight croquet and peek-a-boo with the captain..."
strangers on a flight, your ray of sunshine...
